OAK Trust is a partnership of five schools located in Leicestershire and Leicester City. The Trust is deeply committed to providing an inspirational and holistic education that allows pupils to realise their full potential as learners and citizens. This commitment is reflected in the Trust’s focus on excellent teaching, innovative learning experiences, and the development of the whole child, ensuring that each student is equipped with the skills and confidence needed to thrive in the future.
In pursuit of these goals, OAK Trust approached us with an exciting project: the creation of a poster and book design for their annual ‘500 Words’ competition. This competition is a highly anticipated event held across the partnership schools, designed to encourage pupils to unleash their creativity through writing. The competition offers students the opportunity to craft and enter their stories, with the best entries receiving recognition and accolades.
CAPTURE IMAGINATION
Each year, our design team at a fish in sea takes on the challenge of developing a fresh, engaging theme for the competition. The goal is to capture the imaginations of the pupils and motivate them to participate. This theme is consistently reflected in both the promotional posters and the design of the book that compiles the top entries.
The design process is thorough and thoughtful, ensuring that the posters are vibrant and eye-catching to draw interest and participation from the students. Once the competition concludes, the best stories are selected and compiled into a professionally printed book, which features the same engaging theme. Each pupil who contributes to the book receives a copy, giving them a tangible reward for their efforts and the thrill of seeing their name and work in print.
ENRICHING EDUCATION
This project not only highlights the talents and creativity of the students but also aligns with OAK Trust’s mission of fostering a supportive and enriching educational environment. By participating in the ‘500 Words’ competition, students experience the pride and accomplishment of being published authors, which can have a lasting impact on their confidence and academic motivation.
